What is Co-Writing Assistant?

Co-Writing Assistant is an AI-powered report-writing assistant built directly into Pearson’s Q-global platform. It helps clinicians draft narrative sections of psychological and educational evaluation reports by combining Q-global assessment data with clinician-provided documents, while keeping the clinician fully in control of the final report.

How is Co-Writing Assistant different from general large language models (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini)?

Co-Writing Assistant is purpose-built for clinical reporting and operates entirely within Q-global’s secure environment. It references Pearson clinical frameworks and assessment data and never trains on customer data. By contrast, general large language models are external tools with no targeted assessment logic, no integration with Pearson instruments, and no guarantees around handling sensitive student or patient information. Using those tools requires uploading data outside of Pearson’s controlled environment.

Platform Coverage

Does Co-Writing Assistant work with both Q-global and Q-interactive?

Today, Co-Writing Assistant automatically pulls data from Q-global only, upon report generation. Inclusion of Q-interactive data is planned for a future release. In the meantime, clinicians can upload Q-interactive generated reports they have the rights to into Co-Writing Assistant as supporting documents.

When will Co-Writing Assistant be available in Q-global?

Is Co-Writing Assistant per-use or subscription-based?

Co-Writing Assistant is not a per-use or usage-metered tool.

Access to Co-Writing Assistant will be provided as part of an eligible Digital Assessment Library (DAL) subscription after local commercial release. Co-Writing Assistant does not charge per report, per generation, or per interaction.

Once enabled for an account, customers access Co-Writing Assistant directly through Q-global, and clinicians can use it as part of their normal reporting workflow without tracking individual usage.

How do customers turn Co-Writing Assistant on?

How do you protect PII/PHI when Co-Writing Assistant is used?

All data used by Co-Writing Assistant remains within Pearson’s self-contained, encrypted, and secure environment. Customer data is not mixed with other data, does not leave Pearson’s environment, and is not shared with other AI tools. Data is used solely to support the composition of the specific report being written.

Does Co-Writing Assistant use customer data to train the model?

No. Co-Writing Assistant does not use customer data to train the model. Customer data is used only at generation time to produce the specific report the clinician is working on. The model is static in production and does not learn or adapt based on user inputs. Uploaded documents and report content are never used for training, fine-tuning, or improving the model.

What AI infrastructure does Co-Writing Assistant use?

Co-Writing Assistant uses pre-trained AI models accessed through Amazon Bedrock and hosted in Pearson’s secure AWS environment. Models are accessed via AWS-managed APIs. Customer data, including PHI and PII, is not shared with model providers, or used to train AI models. Amazon Bedrock ensures that model providers do not have access to customer data and that models operate as fixed, pre-trained systems rather than learning from customer inputs. All AI-related data handling follows Pearson’s HIPAA-compliant security controls, including encryption, role-based access control, and audit logging.

Do third-party AI providers or partners have access to my data?

No. Third-party AI providers and partners do not have access to customer data. Co-Writing Assistant uses pre-trained AI models accessed through Amazon Bedrock and hosted within Pearson’s secure AWS environment. Customer data, including PHI and PII, is used only at the time a request is made to generate report content. Customer data is not stored by model providers, not shared with them, and not used to train or improve AI models. Amazon Bedrock ensures that models operate as fixed, pre-trained systems and that model providers cannot see or retain customer data. All AI-related data handling follows Pearson’s existing HIPAA- and FERPA-compliant security controls, including encryption, role-based access control, and audit logging.

Uploads & Third-Party Content

Can customers upload other publishers’ reports into Co-Writing Assistant?

Yes, provided the clinician has the legal right to use the material and the uploaded report does not contain protected test content. Pearson permits third-party uploads only when appropriate licenses or permissions are in place. Uploaded content is used solely to generate that clinician’s report content and is never used to train the AI.

Can users upload Q-interactive reports?

Can I upload Pearson reports into other AI writing tools?

Pearson strongly advises caution in uploading its reports into external AI writing tools. Some Pearson reports contain protected test content, such as MMPI items or critical-item prompts. Pearson cannot verify whether other AI tools ingest, store, or train on that content. Because of this uncertainty — and potential risk to IP and patient data — Pearson cannot recommend uploading Pearson reports containing test content into external AI writers.
