This 3-hour learning track addresses how a well-being focus using the BASC–3 model can be applied in our schools to promote student social/emotional development and address behavioural and mental health issues. This session focuses on a strengths-based approach to screening, assessment, and intervention planning in order to identify behavioural components of student well-being and to support their development. Audience

This session is designed to support BASC-3 users in optimizing their use of the tool to support students’ well-being. 

Course Description

This 3-hour learning track addresses how a well-being focus using the BASC–3 can be applied in our schools to promote student social/emotional development and address behavioural and mental health issues. This session focuses on a strengths-based approach to screening, assessment, and intervention planning in order to identify behavioural components of student well-being and to support their development. Participants will have access to this session for one year.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to: 

Part 1 

  • Determine how supporting social, emotional, and behavioral development can promote student well-being 
  • Learn how behavioral assessments can be used in this process 

Part 2 

  • Understand the BASC–3 model, the Parent and Teacher Rating Scales, and the Self-Report of Personality 
  • Apply these to the process of identifying social, emotional, and behavioral strengths 

Part 3 

  • Demonstrate how results and reports can be interpreted and used to build a strength-based profile for students 
  • Implement BASC–3 social, emotional, and behavioral instruction and supports in the process of proactively developing well-being and a strength-based response to interventions for mental health and behavioral challenges
